As Senior Associate and Director of Research, Kathy directs Busby Perkins+Will’s national Sustainable Design Initiative, which examines internal operations and develops strategic planning to position the firm as the leading green high design firm in North America. Since joining the firm in 2002, she has amassed considerable experience with the LEED rating system, high performance green buildings and the Integrated Design Process, managing certification for a number of our buildings including the successful LEED Gold White Rock Operations Center, and overseeing product research and feasibility studies for the firm.

Kathy has an extensive understanding of the LEED Green Building Rating System, and its application to real life situations. She has a strong commitment to sustainable design and construction and has a detailed knowledge on sustainable product procurement. Kathy is active in the local green building community and often disburses her green knowledge through courses and lectures to diverse groups and through her involvement on project integrated design teams. Kathy's sustainable expertise is reflected in her recent appointment as Chair of the Cascadia Green Building Council and her invitation by GreenBuild in 2004, 2005, and 2007 to review abstracts. Through her ongoing research for Busby Perkins+Will, Kathy reviews incoming research reports and studies for the firm. She is also up-to-date on local and international green building initiatives, case studies and rating systems. She has conducted several precedent studies for local projects, examining international case studies, building systems, and rating systems such as LEED, BREAM, GBTool and Green Star. Kathy recently completed the Roadmap for the Integrated Design Process, which was developed for the BC Green Building Roundtable.
